Jetty Island ready for sand castles The ferry is running for the summer. Here's what you need to know. What: Jetty Island, a two-mile-long man-made island.Where: The island is just across the water from the 10th Street boat launch, which is where the ferry leaves from. When: The ferry leaves every half-hour from 10 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 8:50 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 6:50 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 7. The ferry is free, but tickets are required and are handed out first-come, first-served at the boat launch kiosk. Expect a wait on nice days. Who: You, your family, your friends, anyone who feels like spending some time near the water. Why: Because it's summer and gloriously warm weather is forecast. How: Just be sure to bring sunscreen, snacks, water, kites, whatever, since there are no supplies on the island. Need more details on how it all works?
